“Now that is the work of a superhero!,” exclaimed Weatherman when he heard about the eco-renovation project which is taking place over 2 years in Jericho, Oxford.

87 homes are taking part in a Government project that is testing how household CO2 emissions can be slashed by retro-fitting the existing housing stock with energy saving products. The 87 homes are ‘to be the subject of scrutiny for two years as their energy consumption and carbon emissions are monitored’.

The research project has an ambitious aim of reducing carbon emissions from each household by 80%. Nevertheless, these ambitions look more than achievable because less than six months in, one home is already showing a reduction of 85%.

Among the renovations – which include loft insulation, photovoltaic panels and mechanical ventilation – are triple glazed windows and doors, which provide substantially more thermal efficiency than standard double glazing and single glazing. In one home, a wall has even been removed and replaced by triple glazed windows, such is the insulation provided by triple glazing.

Commenting about the project, Weatherman said: ‘It’s encouraging to see triple glazing being used alongside other energy saving products which are renowned for their effectiveness, such as loft insulation and solar panels.’

‘Myself, Flash Carbon and Solar Lola have come to Earth to raise awareness of triple glazing, and the super benefits that homeowners can enjoy if they have it installed in their home. It’s great to see other manufacturers, installers, home builders and local governments also recognising the power of the third pane!’
